The COLUMBIA CREW MEMORIAL UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP is awarded by the
Texas Space Grant Consortium, together with NASA and the Aviation and
Space Foundation of Texas, in memory of the seven Columbia Space Shuttle
astronauts who died on February 1, 2003.
The $1,000 scholarships are awarded to juniors and seniors from eligible
Texas universities whose studies may lead to careers in space-related
fields. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of
-- Excellence in academics
-- Participation in space education projects
-- Participation in research projects
-- Exhibited leadership qualities
Applications must be submitted online on March 10, 2006. Supporting
materials must arrive within seven calendar days of March 10th. The
application consists of

-- One letter of recommendation, submitted online
-- Official transcripts from all universities attended

Previous Rice winners are Zeyad Metwalli (2005), Amelia Quon (2004), and
Shawna McLallen (2003), Jeff Phillips (2002), Lisa Doan (1998), Andrew
P. Iyengar (1997), Thomas O'Brien (1996), and Ann E. Bragg (1995).
This scholarship does not require nomination by Rice. However I am
available to help students strengthen their applications.
